2025 YSSP Awards Announced

IIASA is pleased to announce the winners of the 2025 Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) Awards, recognizing outstanding research and interdisciplinary excellence.

The Levien Award was awarded to Parisa Javadi (University of Virginia) for her research on land- and ocean-based geochemical CO₂ removal pathways in climate mitigation. The Mikhalevich Award was presented to Ross Tieman (Australian National University) for his work on algorithmic complexity and early warning signals for critical system transitions.

Four participants received honorable mentions for outstanding research contributions: Weiyi Gu (Peking University), Tom Hackbarth (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), Sanda Ny Avo Mamiharimalala (INRAE / Université Paris-Saclay), and Veronika Schick (ETH Zürich).

The YSSP Awards reflect IIASA’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary research and supporting the next generation of systems scientists. Award recipients will receive a stipend to return to IIASA for up to three months to continue their YSSP research.
